As the universities in Buenos Aires continue to climb the QS Latin America University Rankings 2018, more international students are looking to study in the Argentinian capital. And although living costs and tuition fees are considerably lower in Latin America compared to elsewhere in the world, a little extra financial help never goes unwanted!
There’s a wide range of scholarships available for international students who want to study in Buenos Aires. Whilst most scholarships are based on academic merits, there are a handful of specialized scholarships that are targeted at students from particular backgrounds, interests, skills and ambitions.
Even though it can be difficult to find the right one straight away, it’s important to find the scholarship that suits you. So make sure you do your own research and apply in good time – competition for scholarships, especially international scholarships, can be fierce.
To help make the scholarship search a little easier, we’ve already found some of the best scholarships you can study in Buenos Aires.
Mente Argentina Scholarships
Students who are planning to study at graduate level in Buenos Aires can apply for various international scholarships from Mente Argentina. The Academic Merit Scholarship, Financial Need Scholarship and Short & ELAP Program Scholarship are just some of the scholarships offered by Mente Argentina. Successful candidates may be awarded between $250 to $2500 depending on the scholarship.
To apply for one of Mente Argentina’s scholarships, you’ll need to have a GPA of at least 3.0 for the Financial Need Scholarship, and a GPA of at least 3.7 for the Academic Merit Scholarship and the Short & ELAP Program Scholarship. You’ll also need to write an original essay, provide a personal statement and complete the scholarship application form.
Roberto Rocca Education Program
Students from Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, China, Ghana, Guatemala, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Romania, UK, US, Uruguay and Venezuela are eligible to apply for the prestigious Roberto Rocca Education Program scholarship.
The three scholarships listed below are applicable in Buenos Aires, and students must enroll in an undergraduate program, such as engineering, geosciences and material sciences to be considered.
- Scholarship for New Engineering and Geosciences students. There are 40 scholarships offered each year throughout 13 public universities for students who start their studies in engineering and geosciences.
- Scholarships for New Mechanical and Petroleum Engineering students at the Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires. Only five scholarships are awarded to students every year at the Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires.
- Scholarships for Advanced Engineering and Geosciences students. There are 20 scholarships awarded to fourth and fifth-year students across 13 public universities, who specialize in engineering and geosciences.
The scholarships are awarded on academic merit, professional achievements, leadership potential and commitment to the economic and industrial advancements in their home country.
Universidad de Buenos Aires scholarships
The University of Buenos Aires offers various scholarships for international postgraduate students, such as the Financial Aid scholarships.
There are also specific internationals scholarships for postgraduate students from China, Mexico and Italy.
Merit Assistance Fund at IAE Business School
Created by IAE Alumni, the Merit Assistance Fund (FAM) allows current full-time MBA students to apply for tuition grants of up to 40 percent at IAE Business School, including:
- Admission Scholarship for Foreign Students,
- Best GPA Scholarship,
- Public Sector Scholarship,
- Third Sector Scholarship,
- Entrepreneurial Spirit Scholarship,
- Honor Loans.

Margaret McNamara Education Grants
This scholarship is available at Austral University, and is specifically for women aged 25 or over who are from a “lower, or middle-income developing member country.” In your application, you must also be able to successfully demonstrate your commitment to improving the lives of women and children.
QS Scholarships
QS Leadership Scholarship
The QS Leadership Scholarship is an exclusive international scholarship for postgraduate students who attend one of the QS World Grad School Tours. Worth $10,000 to help with the costs of a graduate program (excluding MBAs) anywhere in the world, those who apply for the scholarship must be able to demonstrate strong leadership qualities and capabilities.
QS Scholarship for Academic Excellence
Worth $10,000, the QS Scholarship for Academic Excellence can be used to help subsidize fees for a master’s or PhD. To win this scholarship, you must attend one of the QS World Grad School Tours, and be able to demonstrate strong academic potential with the capacity to make a significant contribution to your field of study.
QS Undergraduate Scholarship
Launched only two years ago in 2016, the QS Undergraduate Scholarship goes towards tuition fees for a bachelor’s degree at a university featured in any of the QS rankings. For more information about the application process, click here.
