Banzarov Buryat State University

Banzarov Buryat State University (BSU) is a classic university in the multinational Republic of Buryatia (Russia), located in the center of Asia on the coast of Lake Baikal, the deepest lake in the world. It is one of the leading academic and scientific centers in Far East which possesses the largest intellectual assets in the Baikal region and carries out fundamental research of almost every kind in cooperation with huge scientific centers of Russia. The University has developed world-class scientific schools in the fields of Condensed Matter Physics, Botany, Ornithology, History, Mongolian studies, Sociology, Philosophy, Literature, Linguistics, Education Theory.

Today the university includes 7 faculties, 6 institutes and a college. It has 11 academic buildings, 7 dormitories, the House of Sports, a stadium, a sports complex and a boarding house at Lake Baikal, and a publishing house. 

BSU has created all the conditions to develop creative and sport abilities of each student. The university has permanent creative teams, the most famous of which is the "Baikal Waves" – "the university visiting card" and a multiple winner and prize winner of various international competitions. There are sports sections in more than 10 different directions. Among students and graduates there are masters of sports, winners and prize-winners of the championships of Russia, Asia, Europe, the World, winners of the Universiade, prize-winners of the Olympic Games.

Great importance at BSU is attached to the international activity, the main task of which is to position the university as an international scientific and educational center, which is attractive to both a foreign scientist and a foreign student and to ensure regional and global competitiveness. The BSU has about 50 international agreements on cooperation with educational and scientific organizations.

Currently, many foreign students are studying at BSU at various educational programs. There are students from China, Mongolia, Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Venezuela and other countries studying at the Preparatory Department of the university and learning the Russian language. The main principles of working with foreign students at the university are security, intercultural dialogue and tolerance.

Moreover, BSU has international Language Testing Centers, including the Confucius Institute, the German Language Testing Center at DAAD "DaF", the Russian Language as a Foreign Language Testing Center, the English Language Testing Center in conjunction with the Department of English Language Exams at the University of Cambridge (Great Britain), and the French Language Resource Center with the support of the Embassy of France.
