Taiyuan University of Technology (TYUT) has its history traced all the way back to the Western Learning School of Shanxi Grand Academy (1902), which was one of the three earliest national universities in China. The University has 22 colleges and departments, and offers 76 undergraduate programs, 126 graduate programs, and 49 doctoral programs. TYUT advocates scientific research and technological development and activates the basic applied research. In July 2014, there were 24, 539 undergraduates, 4744 postgraduates and 696 doctoral candidates. There were also on campus approximately long-term international students from 28 countries.
