The University of Freiburg was founded in 1457. Itenjoys an excellent reputation for its teaching, research, and continuingeducation. It has received many awards in nationwide competitions. Twenty-threeNobel laureates studied, did research, and taught at the university. Today, theinstitution is characterized by a mix of traditional disciplines and moderntechnology. Its strength in research is demonstrated by the annual receipt of170 million euros in third party funding. Around 25 thousand students areenrolled at the comprehensive university, where the course offering ranges frominformation technology, to medicine and the natural sciences, and thehumanities and social sciences.
