QS is collaborating with the UK’s prestigious Manchester Business School (MBS) to offer two business school scholarships for academically talented students who are accepted onto a master’s program at the school. Exclusively available to attendees of the QS World Grad School Tour, these scholarships are worth 50% of the tuition fees of a master’s program at MBS, the largest department of the University of Manchester (ranked 33rd in the world in the 2013/14 QS World University Rankings®).

Rachel Tufft, head of postgraduate marketing at MBS, says the school aims to recruit “academically excellent students from around the world”, which corresponds well with the QS World Grad School Tour’s mission of helping high-caliber students worldwide find programs and institutions to match their ambitions. She continues, “We understand the financial strain that students face when considering further study and do not want this to be a barrier to applicants.”

A chance to study at one of the top business schools in the UK

MBS is reputed among the best business schools in the UK, and internationally. It offers a large selection of courses, from undergraduate level through to PhDs, MBAs and executive education. The two business school scholarships being offered in partnership with the QS World Grad School Tour are specifically for students accepted onto an MBS master’s degree, with programs available in accounting, business analytics, corporate communications, finance, international business, marketing, operational psychology and more.

Rachel explains that all of the school’s courses benefit from extensive links with industry, including partnerships and professional accreditations from bodies such as the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and the British Psychological Society. She adds, “At MBS students have the opportunity to experience real business challenges that stimulate original thinking, including site visits, sponsored projects and guest speakers from industry.”

Students at Manchester Business School also benefit from extensive career development support throughout their studies, to ensure that on graduation they’re truly ready to impress employers and start putting their skills to use. MBS’s award-winning careers service partners with more than 4,500 employers in the UK and worldwide, helping students to access diverse career opportunities. The course community itself also provides plenty of opportunities for international networking, with master’s students currently coming from more than 70 different countries.

Are these business school scholarships for you?

Manchester Business School’s mission is “to give everyone the opportunity to transform their lives and, in doing so, help them transform the organizations they work for and the wider communities in which they live,” Rachel says. As she points out, Manchester itself has a long history of innovation, and as one of the first two business schools in the UK (both were founded in 1965), MBS has a “long and proud history of research excellence, continuing the spirit of innovation and achievement for which the city is renowned.”

So applicants for these business school scholarships need to show they have the potential for innovative thinking. “We will be looking for students who can contribute original thought and enrich the diverse academic and cultural profile of the master’s class,” Rachel says. Other requirements include undergraduate-level studies at a university with a strong academic reputation, from which applicants should have obtained or be on track to obtain a high final grade (UK 1st or high 2.1, or overseas equivalent).

In order to apply for one of the two business school scholarships, applicants should first attend a QS World Grad School Tour event, complete the Manchester Business School admissions process, and then complete the online application. This includes a 700-word essay on the subject: “What difference will having a master’s degree make to your future career and personal aspirations?”
