The UK’s Nottingham Business School (NBS) has teamed up with the QS World Grad School Tour to offer two new development scholarships for students pursuing a master’s degree. Available exclusively to attendees of the QS World Grad School Tour, these two scholarships are worth UK£5,400 for EU students or UK£8,000 for those from outside the EU.

Alex Hiller, Head of MSc Programs, says the school is offering these two development scholarships in order to attract “talented, successful students to study with us at postgraduate level.” He adds, “We endeavor to have the highest possible standards throughout our teaching, learning and other activities and are seeking students who will thrive in this environment.”

Who are these development scholarships for?

In order to be considered for the development scholarships, candidates must attend a QS World Grad School Tour event, and hold at least a 2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent). The scholarship application essay (of no more than 1,000 words) should explain how studying a master’s at Nottingham Business School would fit into their ongoing educational and professional development. Applicants are advised to highlight their education and experience so far, including any challenges faced and overcome; outline a career development plan; and explain how an NBS program would help in achieving this.

“We are looking for applicants to demonstrate their relevant experience and achievements, both educational and outside education, which demonstrate how they have pursued or achieved excellence in that area,” Hiller says. “We will also be looking for a clear showing that candidates have considered how achieving a master’s degree at Nottingham Business School will contribute to achieving their career plans. This should be rooted in realistic and focused career aspirations in particular roles, functions or sectors in the short- to medium-term. Most of all we are looking for driven, focused and ambitious students who will make a positive contribution to their course.”

Leadership with a global perspective

Part of Nottingham Trent University, Nottingham Business School offers a range of master’s degrees, covering fields such as management, marketing, economics, accounting, finance, international business, human resources, global supply chain management and entrepreneurship. “Our master’s programs aim to enhance leadership with a global perspective,” Hiller says. “They are distinctive, relevant and tailored to a dynamic world, giving you opportunities to apply what you learn to live projects, case studies and by hearing from a range of practitioners.”

He adds that team consultancy projects have become an integral part of Nottingham Business School's management programs, and that all MSc students undertake a consultancy project with a real organization as their major project. Towards the start of each course, students undergo a comprehensive development program, focused on strengthening key academic and transferable skills. This includes a short residential team-building course, usually held in the Peak District – an area of the UK renowned for its natural beauty.

“Nottingham Business School is exceptionally strong on career enhancement,” Hiller says. “We are focused on your employability from the start, through a learning experience which integrates theory and practice.” As of the latest survey results (2011-12), 91% of postgraduates were employed or engaged in further study six months after leaving the school.
