Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University – located in the historical district of Almaty – was the first university in Kazakhstan, celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2018.

The university campuses feature academic buildings, scientific laboratories, sports and socio-cultural facilities, and student halls. A large number of shops, cafes, repair shops, and bank branches are located nearby too.
All university campuses have canteens, printing and photocopying services, and ATMs.
The university provides teaching and learning for 406 international students, 3.9 percent of the total number of students. 33 nationalities are represented at Abai University.
The university has a system of student self-government: The Youth Affairs Committee, the student administration, the student self-government Council, and other university youth organizations have been established.
Abai University launched the music studio “Zhastar” and O. Dosbosynov’s Centre for young singing improvisers which both help students develop singing and public speaking skills.
The Smart Students (Instagram page) coworking center hosted more than 31 events in 2019. The center has dombyra, chess, book clubs. Traditionally, the center organizes intellectual games, meetings with famous personalities Star Friday, Charity fairs.

•New Year's masquerade ball
•Start Project contest
•Young singing improvisers competition “My angel - Suyinbay”
•The Rector’s Cup debate tournament

Students live on campus and off.
Students who live in halls actively participate in the social life of the university and city:
•In charity and social events
•On the welfare and landscaping of the city
Various competitions, the Miss KazNPU contest, the annual student spring festival, and the Autumn ball are held each year as well as team building, trekking, hiking in the mountains. As part of the historical and educational excursion "by the great Silk Road", students visited historical sites, Issyk Kurgan, lake Kolsay, Butakovsky gorge. The “Medeo” high-altitude sports complex is also organized annually for mass skating.
4,900 students received tickets to 56 cultural events during the 2019/20 academic year.
Admission is carried out according to:
•Abai KazNPU accepts international students with general secondary, technical and professional education
•There is a special discount “Otandastar” of 30 percent for ethnic Kazakhs for their first year of study
•50 percent discount "for special achievements" for the first year of training (winners of international competitions, Olympiads, masters of sports etc.)
•“Excellent student” (50 percent) and “Altyn Belgi” (100 percent) discounts are provided to applicants who have a certificate of education with honors and awarded the “Altyn Belgi” badge for the first year of study.

Graduate employability from 2020 shows out of 1,954 graduates, 1,857 were employed. Visit the graduate section of the website here.
Since 2010 during the summer holidays, the student construction team and the republican labor team “Green Country” has enabled more than 100 socially vulnerable students to get temporary employment each year.
Active members of the student self-government Council are temporarily employed in the Admissions Committee and are provided with free accommodation in halls.
Meetings, conferences, forums, and online meetings are held for graduates where they share ideas and strengthen future ties.
