Based in India, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham was founded in 1994, and today has 15 schools across eight campuses (Coimbatore, Amritapuri, Cochin, Bangalore, Mysore and Amaravati) and offers 200+ degree programs, in a variety of disciplines.
Amrita has approximately 18,000 students and 1,750 faculty members, 600 of which are PhD/DM holders. The university also has a staff to student ratio of 1:10.
Amrita has established international collaborative initiatives with over 75 institutions in the US, Europe, Australia and Japan.
As Amrita's first campus, Coimbatore is home to Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham HQ. The institution's Coimbatore campus is home to Schools of Agriculture Sciences, Business, Mass Communication, Engineering and Social Work.
The main language of teaching is English, but special language classes such as French and German are also provided to interested students.

Amrita also has a huge library with around 12,681 books, 980 CD-ROMs and multi-media materials.

- Cisco thingQbator services for students to learn about digital technologies in a hands-on environment, convert them to working prototypes, and solve problems

There are a number of clubs and group activities for students to get involved with at Amrita, including:
- Astronomy Club
- Robotics Club
- Green Initiative
- Saahiti (to promote literary and artistic talents of students)

Students can also enjoy the cultural festivals at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. The cultural festivals of India give a glimpse into the tradition of our country and portray its rich cultural heritage.
