The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is a research-oriented comprehensive university founded in 1963 with the mission to combine tradition with modernity and to bring together China and the West. It is unique among universities in Hong Kong in that there are Nobel laureates and Fields and Turing awardees among its faculty members. Its research capability is attested by its many research centres and institutes and four state key laboratories. CUHK also has an excellent record of published research, both in discipline-specific journals and in more high-profile publications such as Science, Nature, and The Lancet. The Graduate School of CUHK was founded in 1966 to undertake research training of postgraduate students. Since then, the Graduate School has been developing rapidly. At present, the Graduate School offers through more than 60 Graduate Divisions a total of over 250 (including many overseas) programmes leading to higher degrees (Master's and Doctoral) or postgraduate diplomas.
