Tuition fees and cost of living

On-campus accommodation costs approximately US$1,900 per annum, while other expenses typically reach US6,500 per year. EdUHK is a young and thriving research-active university, and has three university and 10 faculty-level centres for research. The academics and researchers have been undertaking 188 ongoing projects with around HK$178 million (in 2024/25) in funding provided by the Research Grants Council and other funding bodies, which bears testament to its research capacity as a young and thriving university.

Student halls are a vital element of student life at EdUHK. There are currently four on-campus student accommodation halls, namely Northcote Hall, Grantham Hall, Robert Black Hall and the Jockey Club Student Quarters, which offer approximately 2,200 residential places. 

Allocation is subject to availability and the eligibility of applicants.

Support services are also available to all students throughout the course of their studies, including a buddy support scheme, regular group trips and activities, on-campus events and a personal mentoring service to help students feel at home.

Scholarships for international students

The University has established scholarships to encourage and recognise the pursuit of academic excellence of our non-local students. The scholarships are set up with donations and funding from the University, and are granted on the basis of academic merit, personal qualities, extra-curricular activities and community service, among other factors. In addition, the HKSAR Government provides scholarships to undergraduate and research postgraduate students from Belt and Road regions.

EdUHK scholarships:

  • EdUHK Entrance Scholarship Scheme

            o Full Scholarship: covers full tuition fees, on-campus accommodation fees, academic and living allowance 

            oTuition Scholarship: provides full tuition fees

            oHalf Tuition Scholarship: covers half of the tuition fees 

  • Subject Scholarship: designated for major subjects or areas of study 
  • Student Exchange Scholarship: for a semester-long outbound student exchange programme
  • Other scholarships: e.g. scholarship for outbound activities or special talents 

 

HKSAR Government Scholarship Fund 

  • Belt and Road Scholarship (Designated Countries): for students from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Mongolia and Kazakhstan
  • Belt and Road Scholarship (Other Countries): for students from Belt and Road countries other than those specified above
  • Belt and Road Scholarship (Research Postgraduate)

 

In addition, all full-time MPhil and PhD students at EdUHK are eligible for Research Postgraduate Studentships, which cover a monthly stipend. 

New full-time PhD candidates can apply for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme, which is run by Hong Kong’s Research Grants Council. It provides an annual stipend of approximately US$43,230 as well as conference and research-related travel allowance of approximately US$1,790 per year for each awardee for a period up to three years.

According to the Graduate Employment Survey’s findings over the past decade, EdUHK graduates have been highly competitive in the field of education, as shown by the consistently high percentage of graduates who are either employed or intend to continue their studies, coupled with the overall rising trend of their average starting salary levels.

The Education University of Hong Kong attaches great importance to the learning experience of students.
