About
The Graduate School of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) is newly established in September 2020 and committed to the scholarly excellence and success of our research postgraduate (RPg) students. We invest significantly to provide our students with high-quality educational experience and professional development.
Our missions are:
- Formulate strategies and policies to ensure a coherent, efficient and forward-looking approach to RPg education;
- Facilitate educational and training activities to ensure a holistic educational experience for RPg students;
- Represent PolyU in RPg education in our outreach activities; and
- Increase the sense of belongings of our RPg students to the University.
Although the Graduate School is new, PolyU has been offering RPg education over the past three decades. We currently offer a wide variety of world-class RPg programmes from 6 Faculties and 2 Schools. Our research students from all over the world receive trainings in different fields including applied sciences and textiles, business, construction and environment, design, engineering, health and social sciences, hotel and tourism management and humanities. Our research graduates are making contributions to the society worldwide and teaching in universities or schools, conducting research in institutes, working in industries, financial firms and investment banks, governments, hospitals, consultant companies, real estate or social agencies, etc.

PolyU students can live either on-campus or off-campus. International students can apply to live on-campus at one of the university’s two halls of residence; HungHom Halls, and Homantin Halls.
Admission requirements at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University vary between programs. You can find out more about the application process as well as international admission requirements (including English language proficiency requirements) below.
English language proficiency
The university’s main language of instruction is English, so those who wish to enroll in a degree program will need to have proven language proficiency. If your first language is not English, you will need to meet the university’s requirement for the TOEFL or IELTS:
- TOEFL minimum score of 80 for the internet-based test, or 550 for the paper-based test (for undergraduate, master’s and PhD)
- IELTS score of at least 6.0 (for undergraduate and master’s)
- IELTS score of at least 6.5 (for PhD)

Tuition fees for international students at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University also vary between programs.
The average tuition fees for full-time undergraduate students are HK$140,000 (approximately US$18,000) per academic year.
