About Peking University HSBC Business School (PHBS)
Nestled in the dynamic city of Shenzhen, Peking University HSBC Business School(PHBS) extends Peking University’s rich legacy into southern China. PHBS combines the innovative energy of the city with Peking University’s global reputation for academic excellence. Established in 2004, PHBS has quickly gained recognition as one of China’s leading business schools. Our dedication to delivering exceptional education is reflected in the inclusion of two of our master’s programs in the global top 20 of the QS Business Master’s Rankings 2023. Here, students gain professional skills and global perspectives while engaging with one of the world’s most dynamic economies and complex business landscapes — a unique learning experience that equips them with the tools for success in an interconnected world.
- Peking University HSBC Business School has more than 80 internationally educated faculty members with PhDs from leading universities around the world.
In PHBS’s commitment to research, Nobel Prize in Economics winner, Professor Thomas Sargent, has joined PHBS to conduct research as the head of the “Sargent Institute of Quantitative Economics and Finance”.
- PHBS has established 10 Research institutes to enrich the academic research and contribute to the future innovation.
In addition to these institutes, PHBS provides an appropriate research environment for both students and faculty members with its financial lab’s large amenities. The Financial Lab is a resource for students of Economics and Finance to track changes in financial markets the world over. The lab provides resources for students to tap into current market trends, including a Bloomberg Terminal, WIND, Eventus, Compustat, SRSP, and WRDS. Students use their school login information to access this terminal, which is linked to national and international financial databases.
- In order to enhance the diversity of our student body, PHBS has created a school funded scholarship, specifically for international students. The scholarship provides qualified international students with strong academic and professional records with either half-tuition or full-tuition scholarship funding.
The basic requirements for international students for both PHBS Shenzhen Campus master programs (Management, Finance and Economics) and PHBS-UK master Cross-Border programs (Management and Finance) are:
- Graduated with a bachelor’s degree or higher
- Be a non-Chinese citizen with a valid passport
- Have a proof of English proficiency with a satisfactory TOEFL (90 and above) or IELTS (6.5 and above) score (not required for native English speakers)
PHBS offers a multitude of financing options for international students:
School-Funded Scholarships
For international students, there are two award levels for the MA program: full tuition scholarship and half tuition scholarship. In addition, PHBS also provides Freshman Special Scholarship of 15,000 RMB. At the end of each academic year, the status of these scholarships are evaluated based on student performance at PHBS.
Chinese Government Scholarship
The Chinese government offers grants to international applicants interested in pursuing higher education in China. Each year the China Scholarship Council (CSC) awards funding to hundreds of foreign students studying in China.
CAREERS
Graduates of PHBS are making their mark worldwide.
For the Class of 2024, 98% secured employment within six months of graduation. Graduates took diverse career paths: roughly 37% in technology, 26% in finance, 15% in consulting, and others in trading, energy, hospitality, or non-traditional sectors.
Alumni now bring their expertise to global firms such as UBS AG, CICC, Deutsche Bank, KPMG, PwC, McKinsey, Huawei, and Alibaba, with some exploring entrepreneurial paths.
