At the beginning of the 20th century, three commercial educational institutions in Central Asia and Uzbekistan trained specialists for trade and industrial firms and banks. Preparation of high-level economists began on May 12, 1918 with the establishment of Turkestan State University. The School of Sociology and Economics at this university has begun to prepare highly qualified economists for Central Asia

On February 15, 1931, a Planning Institute was established in Tashkent to train economists. In time, this university was renamed the Institute of National Economy and later the Commercial-Cooperative Institute.

Taking into account the growing demand for economists, the Central Asian Financial and Economic Institute was established on August 13, 1931, on the basis of the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of Turkestan State University. As a result, the Tashkent Financial and Economic Institute was established, which trains personnel for the financial systems of the Central Asian republics. He was tasked with training highly qualified specialists in Central Asian financial, credit and accounting systems. This was the first stage of training economists in Uzbekistan.
