The Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara (UAG) was founded in 1935 as the first private university in Mexico. The UAG is a coeducational, nondenominational and nonprofit organization. It is independent, autonomous, and is not affiliated with or dependent on any government, church or political party. The University is proud to be thoroughly Mexican and, at the same time, to emphasize its orientation to international education. The UAG has some of the best educational facilities in the country, covering an area of 2,000 acres, distributed in 4 campuses in the zone of Guadalajara city: the Central Campus (C.U.), the Biological Sciences Institute, the Health Sciences Campus, and the University in the Community (UNICO). The UAG also owns other campus in the city of Villahermosa in Southwest Mexico. In addition, the UAG has two hospitals, one Experimental Agricultural Center, the Marine Sciences Station on the Pacific Ocean coast, and 3 university hotels and convention centers. The U.A.G. has a current enrollment of around 12,000 students, 85% of whom are Mexican, while 15% come from 25 different countries. The institution employs around 300 full-time and 900 part-time, highly qualified, faculty members. Within the areas mentioned above, the UAG offers 40 undergraduate majors, 73 master’s programs and graduate specialization, 2 doctoral degrees and 17 associate degree programs.
