The Master degree corresponds with the Bachelor degree. Analogous to the Bachelor degree, there are the Master of Science (M.Sc.) in engineering and natural sciences and the Master of Arts (M.A.) in humanities, business sciences, social sciences and linguistics at the University of Rostock.Doctorate (PhD): With a few exceptions, the doctorate (PhD) is a prerequisite for a scientific career and requires another university degree. In many cases a minimum grade is required, too.As a rule, the elaboration of a doctoral thesis (dissertation) requires several years – with the medical dissertation as an exception as it can already be elaborated parallel to the studies.The doctorate (PhD) should be an in own and autonomous scientific performance that delivers significant new results.
