The University of Rome Tor Vergata is a relatively young university (Established in 1982) but, despite its young age, has already reached high quality standards in Italy and Europe. Tor Vergata is located in the south-east metropolitan area of Rome, on a very large campus with an extension of about 600 hectares, and consists of six different Faculties: Economics, Engineering, Humanities, Law, Medicine and Sciences. The close proximity and research ties with other distinguished research centers, such us ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Environment), ESA-ESRIN (the European Space Agency Center for Earth Observation), the Astronomical Observatory of Rome and the Italian National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN), makes the University of Rome Tor Vergata a unique research environment in the most advanced scientific areas. Recently, a research consortium between the Italian Ministry of University and Research, the Regione Lazio (Lazio Regional District), CNR, ENEA, INFN and the University of Rome Tor Vergata has been created to develop a free-electron laser (FEL), The new free-electron laser will bring together physicists, chemists, biologists and engineers in advanced research and experiments for the structural assessment of inorganic and biological material at the atomic level. In Tor Vergata, the quality of teaching hinges upon the university's commitment to research, and the entire learning experience takes place in relevant, cutting-edge fields of study.
