We’re continually investing in our campus and facilities to ensure we provide a high quality learning environment with access to all of the resources and technology you need.
There are five libraries available to students, with the university's Information Commons and Diamond offering 24/7 study facilities.
Our Information Commons library has 1,300 learning spaces, considerable technology support and over 100,000 books and 500 computers.
The Diamond, a multidisciplinary teaching facility offers a range of independent and shared study spaces, computer and specialist engineering labs as well as an extensive library collection. It also features sector-leading creative media facilities including private editing booths and a full TV studio.
Accommodation
The University of Sheffield guarantees to find students a place in their accommodation for the duration of their studies, providing they meet a few simple conditions. All university accommodation includes a private bedroom and free Wi-Fi. The majority of rooms are en-suite so students will have their own bathroom and WC.
Sports
University sports are open to everyone. There are many sports and exercise opportunities for you to get involved in, regardless of your ability, commitment level or past experience.
You can also join our fitness centre, Sport Sheffield to get access to a variety of fitness classes and sports facilities, including a high-tech gym, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts and sports pitches.
Faith support
Our religious advisors and chaplains offer care and support to all students, whatever your beliefs and there are places of worship for those of all faiths including Muslim prayer rooms on campus.

Not only did our students vote us University of the Year, our Students’ Union was voted the best in the UK for the seventh year running, and we were named best for student life (WhatUni Student Choice Awards 2024). While you’re here, you can join one, or all, of over 400 student societies and 60 sports clubs.

English language requirements
The university accepts a range of different English language qualifications. The English Language Teaching Centre offers pre-sessional English language courses for those who need to improve their English levels to meet the entry requirements for their undergraduate or postgraduate degree.
Undergraduate
Sheffield accepts a range of different international qualifications for direct entry onto undergraduate courses. If students do not meet the requirements, they can apply for one of the university’s pathway programmes.
To apply for an undergraduate course, students need to apply through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS). Sheffield’s UCAS code is S18 SHEFD. There is no campus code.
Postgraduate Taught
Holders of a good bachelor’s degree from a recognised university will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate diploma or master’s programmes. Students applying for a postgraduate taught or master’s course can apply using the online application form. The university’s most popular courses receive many more applications than study places available.
Postgraduate Research
Holders of a good bachelor’s degree and a good master’s degree from a recognised university will be considered for direct admission to postgraduate research programmes.
