POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMS

COMPUTATIONAL SCIENCES PhD
Students are educated to carry out research in Computational Science with specialization in fields that require High Performance Computing such as Climate Modeling, Computational Physics, Machine Learning, Scientific Computing, Computational Chemistry, 3D Visualization and Computational Biology. Future researchers are educated in mathematical modelling and computational methods and techniques to solve complex scientific and engineering problems and in management and visualization of complex data sets.

ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT AND ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCES PhD
Students are educated in energy, environmental and atmospheric sciences; sectors of high priority internationally. The curriculum includes courses that establish a common basis among students form different disciplines, including courses from the selected domain: energy, environment or atmosphere, and courses that provide insights into a variety of more specialized topics.  Doctoral candidates perform research in:  Solar Energy and Desalination, Climate Change and Impact, Atmospheric Sciences and Meteorology, Environmental Research and Monitoring, Water Research and Management, Sustainability and Built Environment.

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCES MSc/MPhil
The program involves two specialization tracks:

The Atmospheric Sciences Track addresses the basic physical processes involved in maintaining the global circulation of the atmosphere and surface climate; weather and climate models to understand the governing physical principles and their use for climate and weather prediction purposes; the principles of atmospheric chemistry and biology; the factors controlling air quality and the techniques used for air pollution control; the major air pollution sources and methods for measurement, data collection and analysis of atmospheric samples.

The Meteorology Track addresses subjects in Meteorology and Climatology with the aim to equip students with the weather and climate knowledge and skills necessary in weather forecasting, agrometeorology, hydrometeorology, biometeorology, aviation meteorology, renewable energy resources, marine meteorology, climate change and its impacts assessment. Students complete a Basic Instruction Package as required by the WMO, including Physical Meteorology, Dynamic Meteorology, Synoptic and Mesoscale Meteorology and Climatology.

SIMULATION AND DATA SCIENCE MSc
This unique program combines Simulation with the new field of Data Science. As computers speed up and instruments and sensors become more advanced, the amount of data collected is increasing exponentially, needing large-scale computing to analyze it.  All disciplines: environmental, biological, chemical, physical sciences, financial economics, and the humanities generate massive amounts of data, which we can only be addressed through the utilization of computational and data science. A unique interdisciplinary approach is provided to solve critically important problems, using applied mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, statistics and computing. Through modelling simulation, data mining, and study of specific phenomena via computer analysis, students will learn to apply computational and data analytics to gain new insights.
