Nawab Sir Sahibzada Abdul Qaiyum Khan, hailing from Topi, district Swabi, had founded the Islamia College in 1913.
Islamia College emerged as a beacon of scientific knowledge and torchbearer of supreme ethical and religious values. In over a century long journey, the college has become an icon of academic par excellence. Its motto is ‘Rab-i-Zidni Ilma’ (O Lord, enhance me in knowledge). Its slogan is ‘Old Traditions with New Horizons’. Allah the Almighty has bestowed His special blessing on this Darul Ulum. The college, which began its educational voyage with just 33 students in 1913, became a full-fledged University in 2008. After 100 years of its establishment in 2013, the Islamia College, Peshawar, has more than 9000 students today (2014). It has over 329 teaching faculty of whom 69 have Ph. D and 62 have MS/M. Phil degrees. The Islamia College, Peshawar has one school, one girls’ college, and 14 hostels for its male and female boarders. Many thousand alumni of the Islamia College, Peshawar have been serving the country and nation in all walks of life. Eminent academicians, politicians, technocrats, administrators, scholars have the sublime title of Islamian, which is the identity of the passed out students of this great seat of learning. . The Islamia College, Peshawar has the great honor of having one President of Pakistan and Eight Governors from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on its alumni roll. Becoming an Islamian is a cherished dream of every youth in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The University of Peshawar, KPK University of Engineering and Technology, KPK University of Agriculture, Khyber Medical College, Khyber College of Dentistry and many other colleges and schools emerged on the grand campus of Islamia College, Peshawar.
