Our MDes are based on thematic approaches, organized in two years, and are divided in two categories : we have programs for students from all over the world who want to join our school to complete a Master's level, and we have postgraduate programs for the students who completed their undergraduate studies at L'École de design.

We offer 4 programs for students who join our school in MDes, 1 taught in Nantes, France : 

3 programs within our international studios; focusing on the exploration and acceptance of different cultures within an applied, interdisciplinary context.

These MDes programs are taught in English, and are open to students who have completed Bachelor's degree or equivalent in industrial design, graphic, interaction, product or spatial design.A successful completion of this 2-year full-time programs leads to our Master's Degree in Design which is fully accredited and certified by the French Minister of Higher Education.

Completing a Master’s degree program at L’École de design means:

  • Obtaining an internationally and nationallyrecognized qualification*;
  • The possibility of following a MDes program in English or French;
  • Access to the corporate world through the alumni network, the school partnerships with companies and the innovation and design centers;
  • Opening to the world of research within the Design Labs and the associated research chairs;
  • The possibility of completing their knowledge and develop additional skills thanks to the double degrees;
  • The guarantee of acquiring a technical expertise in innovation in the areas covered by the MDes programs and gaining the management skills required for a young designer.


MDes : Course outline The master’s course programs are completed over two years, divided into 4 semesters.

  • Semester 1
    In Nantes: The goal of this semester for students is to highlight and expand professional knowledge in the context of another culture.
    Students enrolled in Transcultural Design in Brazil, China or India are required to take an orientation seminar followed by an internship, preferably in China, India or Brazil, depending on the chosen program.
  • Semester 2
    In Nantes: During this semester, students learn how to manage complex design projects, deepen their knowledge of the economic, social and cultural aspects of the field covered in their program, build and apply a methodology and support their end-of-term project. studies, the subject of which they themselves define.
    Students enrolled in Transcultural Design in Brazil, China or India: during this semester students learn to manage complex design projects; broaden their knowledge of the economic, social and cultural aspects of their chosen program; create and apply a methodology; and prepare their end of study project, on a subject of their choice, related to, depending on their chosen field of study.
  • Semester 3
    Continuation and finalization of the end of study project. In parallel, students can participate in collaborative projects with companies and / or institutions.
  • Semester 4
    Four to six month internship within a company in France or abroad, as a junior designer


Employability 

Current employment data for our 2016 graduates (bac +5): 18 months after obtaining their degree, 95% of graduates from the class of 2016 are employed. Of these 95%, 55% work in design agencies, 31% work for a company and 14% are self-employed. 1/4 of our graduates are having a career abroad.
