Founded in 1949, Niigata University is a large-scale Japanese national, comprehensive university located in Niigata City, Japan with a student body of approximately 12,300 students and 3,200 academic and administrative staff members. Our two campuses, one in the downtown area and the other blessed with an abundance of nature provide an ideal environment for students to pursue their academic goals. It’s ten undergraduate faculties and five graduate schools offer students a wide range of academic fields in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degree programs: humanities, education, law, economics, science, medicine, health science, dentistry, engineering and agriculture. The university houses one university hospital providing high-quality, patient-centered medical care and two research institutes: the Brain Research Institute and the Research Institute for Natural Hazards and Disaster Recovery, both of which facilitate and engage in groundbreaking research.
As Niigata University has been dedicating to strive to bring global perspective to all its programs and activities as well as to be an international base for higher education and advanced research, we have promoted collaborative research and education with overseas institutions. Taking advantage of the geographical features of the university, which is located in Niigata City facing the Sea of Japan, the university has been working on building and strengthening international networks in East Asian region while looking out towards the world. Niigata University will endeavor to improve our education and research to ensure that we meet the needs of students and the world.
