The State Conservatory of Thessaloniki was founded in 1914, following the decision of the then Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos, under the name of 'Conservatory of Thessaloniki' and under the artistic and managerial supervision of the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs.
Its aim was the teaching of the European music along with the support and promotion of the Greek music. The regulation of operation of the S.C.T. was based on the following basic statutes:
Legislative decrees 1445/42, 2010/42 and 2870/54, Parliamentary decree of 1957 published in the Official Journal of the Greek Government (229/11-11-1957), which define until this day the framework of the musical education in our country.
