The Rey Juan Carlos University, founded in 1996, is the most modern of the six public universities located in the Madrid region. With a current student body of about 46,000, it is the university with the second highest number of students in the Madrid region. The university’s modern buildings are distributed over its five campuses in Alcorcón, Aranjuez, Fuenlabrada, Madrid and Móstoles.
International students are drawn to the Rey Juan Carlos University due to the high-quality training provided by over 2,000 specialist teaching staff. The annual intake of more than 5,000 international students, pertaining to 113 nationalities, can obtain any necessary support through our University Language Centre. In the 2008-09 academic year the Rey Juan Carlos University began to offer joint honour undergraduate degree programmes, and since their implementation the choice has increased due to the boost from the European Higher Education Area. Rey Juan Carlos University ranks as the Spanish university with the highest number of joint degree courses which make it possible for students to take two degrees simultaneously thereby broadening their horizons professionally. Increasingly, students require courses which will ensure they obtain university degrees covering a wide range of possibilities and at the same help students acquire the type of profile expert companies seek. The Alcorcón Campus has facilities tailored to suit teaching and the necessary practical sessions, in line with the degree courses. The campus features research laboratories related to the study of: Preventive Medicine and Public Health, Biochemistry/Human Physiology, Cytology and Histology, Pharmacology, Electron Microscopy, URJC Technology Support Centre Genomics Unit, Dentistry, Motion analysis, biomechanics, ergonomics and motor control, Psychology, Mother and child, Anatomy and Human Embryology. Additionally there are laboratories at hand for teaching practice, a Psychomotor development room, an intelligent apartment to cater for disabled persons, and a research laboratory REDLABU (movement analysis, biomechanical, ergonomics and motor control).
Special mention must be made the URJC University Clinic which provides Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation services.
Fuenlabrada Campus: One of the main facilities located on this campus is a 1,500m2 hangar with 14 laboratories. This facility is unique in that the Rey Juan Carlos University is the only Spanish university which boasts an installation of this kind. The hanger serves to carry out practical training for students taking undergraduate courses in Aeronautical and space engineering and Aerospace Vehicles Engineering.
On the same campus, is a specialized computer room for tourism and travel management, with hotel management and catering programmes, computerized booking systems, ADSL on BTN service with ISDN line. The computer room provides a computer, with the Amadeus Selling Platform application, per student.
The Fuenlabrada Campus features a television set of 275 square metres and 9 metres high, two multi-purpose sets of 190 square meters, radio studios, photochemical photography laboratory with 10 enlargers and a range of professional lenses, 18 networked non-linear high resolution editing rooms for video editing. Also available are facilities for non-linear Multimedia editing and a Graphic design, animation and 3D laboratory.
Madrid Campus: There are two research laboratories pertaining to the URJC laboratory network (REDLABU): Radio Experimental laboratory (LabExRadio) and Television Image and Electronics Research laboratory (LIITE).
Apart from these, there is a computer room for travel and tourism management, provided with a hotel and catering management programme and computerized booking systems. The Madrid-Vicálvaro campus features 9 computer rooms, with basic software and access to over 400 Virtual software programmes on the university’s platform.
Furthermore, there is an Eye Tracker room, with an observation area as well as a monitored area. There are also, video-gaming lecture room, professionally fitted out with Dell Optiplex 9020 equipment with 8 Gb of Ram and i5 microprocessors. In addition to this equipment, we have 25 haptic Novint Falco system devices and two projectors to enhance the classroom experience.
Aranjuez Campus: The campus is located on the Aranjuez Royal Site and town, declared a Cultural Landscape Heritage Site by the UNESCO. The facilities encompass historical buildings, such as the Pavia Barracks, The Governors House, the Lucas Jordán lecture hall building, and the Maestro Rodrigo Building. Also at hand are the Campus Library, computer rooms, a photography studio set, a Translation and interpretation laboratory and specific facilities for the Fine Arts degree course and the Design and Fashion Management degree course. Amongst other things, the Rey Juan Carlos University stands out for its sporting achievements. Students can choose from the wide range of the sporting activities on offer on all campuses. The URJC has Basketball, Handball, In-door football, Football 11 Rugby and Volleyball teams. To enable participation in sports activities there are: basketball courts, in-door football facilities, handball, volleyball, tennis, and paddle tennis courts, table tennis equipment, rugby field and multi-purpose courts. The Fuenlabrada campus houses the “Raúl Blanco” stadium, which comprises athletics tracks, a gymnasium and a natural grass football pitch.
In addition to its academic and research activities, the Rey Juan Carlos University organizes a series of programmes and events for the university community and its social surroundings. In the course of the academic year, there are several accessible artistic, cultural and training activities to complement student life and also contribute to the development and integral training of our students.
