Established in 1971, Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL) is an autonomous higher education institution, located in Loja, the cultural city of Ecuador.
Renowned as a leader in distance education and at the forefront of technological advances, UTLP’s wide portfolio of undergraduate and graduate degree programs encourage students to explore, discover, experiment and create their own knowledge.

Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja’s campus is a dynamic and inspiring learning environment, equipped with cutting-edge technology, co-working spaces, and green areas. Its library is enriched with a plethora of academic resources, including over 800 cubicles, a multimedia studio room, and more than 56,000 physical books and 203,000 digital books.
Digital tools such as the Virtual Learning Environment, augmented reality, remote laboratories and virtual worlds, among others, to facilitate learning of those people who opt for distance education in their desire to obtain a profession, without neglecting other fundamental aspects of life.
There are, of course, art, culture and sports facilities also at UTLP. With nine sports clubs and 12 art groups, including dance, music and theater, there’s something for every student to get involved with and enjoy.
Other outstanding services and facilities include:
- A free bus system is available for students to use to and from the university’s campus
- An entrepreneurship center where more than 50 initiatives are being developed in Ecuador
- Convention Center where more than 180 events per year are performed
Student accommodation
Students can schedule a one-to-one meeting with the university who need advice and guidance regarding student accommodation in the city of Loja.
There are 21 student-led sport and art groups at the university. UTLP’s Well-Being Department encourages students to join one of its eight sports clubs:
- Athletics
- Basketball
- Football
- Indoor football
- Volleyball
- Sportive dance
- E-sports
- Table tennis (Ping- Pong)
For almost two decades the university’s 10 art groups have been made up of students who represent Ecuadorian diversity in artistic and cultural events all around the world.
Through UTLP’s various facilities and groups, students can develop their artistic and creative side in the fields of contemporary dance, folk music, chamber music, performing arts, and vocal arts, among others.

Scholarships
Through various scholarship programs, Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja covers the costs of college tuition cost for those who present limited financial resources, are part of minority groups in society, or stand out for their academic, sports or cultural merits.
