Based in Quito and Santo Domingo, Ecuador, the Universidad UTE is a private university with almost 50 years of experience and tradition. It prides itself on its ability to implement an innovative educational model focused on the student which interconnects teaching, research, and extension within society.
Best known for being the only university in the country with Advanced Research Centers in Biomedicine, and Human Genetics and Genomics, Universidad UTE is where world-class scientists conduct research on rare genetic diseases, population genetics, cancer genomics, and new pharmacological components from Ecuadorian biological resources in order to treat infectious and chronic non-transmittable high impact diseases.
Besides, Universidad UTE has an Aerospatiale Program with The Southwest State University (SWSU) and two country-leading Research Centers in Food, and Public Health and Clinical Epidemiology associated with the Iberoamerican Cochrane Network, which recognize knowledge and technologies that contribute to the policy generation and the solution of problems in the parameters of food security and health promotion based on the production and dissemination of the best scientific evidence.
Universidad UTE offers 25 undergraduate programs and 24 postgraduate programs specializing in art and humanities, business and administration, engineering and technology, life sciences and medicine, natural sciences, and social sciences.
All undergraduate and graduate programs at Universidad UTE are taught in Spanish. However, some undergraduate programs include subjects in English, and some graduate programs require an intermediate level of English as an entry requirement.

Undergraduate admissions
If you’re an international student who’s interested in studying an undergraduate degree program at the Universidad UTE, you will need to have a high school diploma (or equivalent). This should be registered with the Ministry of Education or Official Transcriptions. You will also need to pass the university’s admission exam.
International students who wish to study at the university as part of an exchange/study abroad program will need to provide evidence of the mobility agreements signed between the Universidad UTE and their initial higher education institution.
Postgraduate admissions
If you’re interested in applying to study a postgraduate degree program at the Universidad UTE, you will need to complete and provide the following:
- Up-to-date CV
- Motivation letter
- Undergraduate degree – this should be registered with the Ecuadorian Authority of Higher Education - Senescyt or apostilled or legalized via consular in cases of international students
- English proficiency certificate at the level required for the program, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
For medicine and dentistry specializations, students must also provide:
- Undergraduate degree registered with Senescyt and Ecuadorian Ministry of Public Health
- A passing grade on the Professional Habilitation Exam from Ecuadorian Council of Higher Education Assurance

Universidad UTE offers an extensive Scholarship and Financial Aid Program for National and International students. In 2019, the university awarded approximately 5,200 scholarships (2,600 for each semester), worth US$9.8 million.
