Vitebsk State Medical University

Vitebsk State Medical University  (VSMU) is one of the largest  and most distinguished medical establishment of higher education in Belarus with more than 7200 students from 43 countries.  VSMU is famous for its quality of medical education. VSMU offers traditional European Schedule of training: lectures, seminars, laboratory and training classes. The quality management system of our university meets the international ISO 9001 standards. 

Educational process in Vitebsk State Medical University is organized at 68 chairs. The educational departments are equipped with modern automatic apparatuses for training, sets of plastic models and phantoms, complex medical-diagnostic equipment. The teaching is supported with skilled pedagogical experience, highly - qualified research activity and great academic means of training. Ratio and 3-stage system of students’ knowledge assessment is used at the university (computer testing, practical skills and interview). Since 2017 VSMU provides for foreign entrants distant preparatory courses in chemistry and biology. 

VSMU has following undergraduate faculties:

• Preparatory Training Faculty (Course);
• General Medicine Faculty;
• Pharmaceutical Faculty;
• Stomatological Faculty;
• Faculty of Overseas Students Training. 

Degree programs

• Premedical training course. 

1st stage of  undergraduate program:

• General Medicine – 6 years.
• Stomatology – 5 years.
• Pharmacy – 5 years .

2nd  stage of  undergraduate program:

• Master’s degree (15 specialties) – 1 year.

Knowledge assessment in VSMU assumes ration and 3-state system of students knowledge assessment is practiced at the university: 

• computer training (MCQs), 
• practical skills, 
• interview.

Training of clinical disciplines is carried out in cycles (1 – 3 weeks). 

To improve the quality of teaching educative-industrial pharmacy, dental clinic, and control-analytic laboratory were created where students are able to put the accepted knowledge into practice. 

Clinical bases of the University are the majority of city clinics containing necessary modern medical-diagnostic equipment. The main clinical bases of the university are Regional Clinical Hospital, Regional Oncological Heath Centre, Hospital of Emergency Medical Help, Regional Children's Clinical Center, VSMU Clinic and others. 

Practical training is carried out in 15 state hospitals and medical centers. Clinical facilities are equipped with necessary modern medical-diagnostic equipment. Each department has its own educational-practical base. 

VSMU is notable for a high level of training, high activity in research and social work and high professionalism in medical work.
