Yasouj University is located in the city of Yasouj (Yasuj), the capital of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province. This city is in southwest of Iran and home to various nomadic tribes. Bashar River flows through the city which is situated at the foot of the Zagros Mountain range and 20-kilometers from the snow-capped Mount Dena; which is considered as one of the most challenging climbs in Iran. The city of Yasouj is surrounded by thick oak, Persian turpentine and maple forests. The city experiences high annual snow and rainfall. The city has been known as the Nature Capital of Iran, because of its lush vegetation, fertile soil and scenic waterfalls.
Yasouj University is an accredited and well-known public university in Islamic Republic of Iran and worldwide. It was initially established in 1983, entitled "Yasouj Technical College". In 1993, "Yasouj Technical College" was promoted to "Yasouj Higher Education College"; and then, in 1999, it was promoted to an independent public university, entitled "Yasouj University" and developed.
Nowadays, Yasouj University has 29 departments such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, statistics, biological sciences, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, material engineering, polymer engineering, computer engineering, history, philosophy, theology, politics studies, sociology, geography, economics, psychology, Islamic education, Islamic law, Persian language and literature, English language training, agriculture, forestry and animal sciences.
250 academic members and several postdoctoral researchers work in Yasouj University and more than 6000 bachelor, masters and doctorate students study in this university. There are 30 undergraduate programmes, 49 master courses and 19 doctoral programmes in the institution. Among its staff is Prof Mehrorang Ghaedi, named in 2016 as one of the 5 best Iranian researchers in nanotechnology, and selected as the top 1% highly cited researchers in the world by Thomson Reuters from 2009.

• Synthesis of novel photocatalysts based on metal organic framework and their use in wastewater treatment of ammonia and urea units in a flat plate photo reactor
• Antibacterial and antifungal activity of flower extracts of Urtica dioica, Chamaemelum nobile and Salvia officinalis and investigation of effects of nanoparticles on their properties
• Study of methanol electro-oxidation on Ni and Ni–Pt/carbon paper electrodes for direct methanol fuel cell applications.
In 2020, Yasouj University was Ranked 401-500, in the Overall ranking of Times Higher Education World University Ranking system, comparing with other universities and institutions in the world and also, 2nd in Iran.
