National PingtungUniversity of Science and Technology (NPUST) was founded under the name ofKaohsiung District Pingtung Extension School of Agriculture in 1924, during theperiod of Japanese colonial. Around thistime it was among the best vocational schools in Taiwan and becoming thefoundation for Taiwan’s economic boom. Fast forward in 1991, the institutionrestructured to become a vocational college. Yet, in 1997 the vocationalcollege ameliorated to a university of science and technology.
Ranked sixth in Asia, in the 2018 World GreenMetric University Awards, the university occupies about 300 hectares of land inNeipu Township (Pingtung County), in the southern part of Taiwan. The institution has enjoyed the reputation ofbeing a “National Park University. The campus is impressively gorgeous,imposing a national park with the view of extensive fields, picturesquescenery, and peaceful atmosphere. It is ranked top in the nation and providesan excellent place for students to cultivate their skills and personalqualities while strengthening their bodies and minds. It is also an ideal placefor faculty members to carry out their research and educational activities.
Currently, the university is home to six colleges,the college of Agriculture, Engineering, Management, Humanities and SocialScience, Veterinary Medicine, and the International College. Each of thecolleges has developed broad educational resources in diverse disciplines ofstudy. Integrating the strengths ofthese six colleges, actuate comprehensive interdisciplinary education and researchresults.
