Instituto Tecnológico de Sonora was established in 1955 for the local community that was in need of new educational opportunities. It’s now an autonomous public university with a vision to be recognized worldwide for its leadership on both a national and international level.
Home to 16,000 students, its two main campuses are located in Ciudad, Obregón, Sonora, with three satellite campuses based in Guaymas, Empalme and Navojoa all offering a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, including three PhD programs.
The Sonora Institute of Technology (ITSON) is an institution committed with social development; it has more than 18,000 students and experts that offer education services, research and development focused in the improvement of the well-being, self-sufficiency, health, and survival of the communities where it has presence. ITSON was established in 1955 as a project of the community that was looking for the offering of new educational opportunities. The initial effort for establishing ITSON was headed by The Lions Club International, Ciudad Obregon Chapter.
Mission: The Instituto Tecnologico de Sonora is an autonomous public university committed to the training of competent, enterprising and upright professionals, the generation and application of knowledge and extension of science, culture and sport, to contribute to sustainable development of society. Vision: To be a university recognized for its leadership at national and international levels, for the excellence of its students, alumni, staff and academic offerings, as well as innovation in its processes, the impact of its research and the transfer of knowledge and technology for sustainable development of society.
