Lancaster University
About
Lancaster University is among the best in the UK. As well as being in the top 150 in the World according to the QS World Rankings 2025, we are proud to be a UK Top 10 University (Complete University Guide 2025). We’re situated on a green and spacious campus in North West England which occupies a beautiful 578-acre green site, just three miles from Lancaster city centre. Across the campus, we offer exceptional learning facilities, from modern labs and lecture theatres, to the multi-million pound sports centre and outstanding library facilities.
Our teaching is underpinned by the research we do to solve some of the world’s greatest challenges. Our community of researchers transform lives and communities across the globe. The strength of our research was recognised by the UK Government’s Research Excellence Framework which rated 91% of our research rated world-leading or internationally excellent in 2021.
Lancaster is one of only a small number of leading UK universities to operate a college structure. There are nine colleges, each providing students with small close-knit communities and a “home from home”. Each college has its own social and study spaces, and creates a supportive student environment and opportunities to get involved in a wide range of events and activities.
Accommodation at Lancaster has been named UK’s ‘Best University Halls’ eight times since 2010 at the Global Student Living Index awards, so whatever your budget or room preference, you’ll find a comfortable place to live.
Lancaster has an outstanding record in graduate employment. Our graduates perform well in an increasingly competitive job market and are highly regarded by employers.
The Lancaster University campus offers students everything we think they will need. Facilities on campus include shops, restaurants, cash machines (ATMs), hairdressers, a post office, coffee shops, a theatre, cinema and art galleries. Located at the heart of campus, our library is a welcoming place that brings people together to study, learn and attend events. With staff ready to support your learning, over a million digital and physical resources, living walls and a tree affectionately named Norma.
Surrounded by woodland that you can explore with paths and trails, campus has many green spaces that are ideal for moments of calm or somewhere to socialise with friends.
Keep healthy with our extensive sports facilities, including sports halls, a climbing wall, swimming pool, fitness suite, strength and conditioning room, outdoor pitches and courts, and a 2.6-mile Trim Trail that spans campus.
You’ll have everything you need on campus, but you’ll quickly discover that the City of Lancaster is a wonderful neighbour. Its fascinating heritage and stunning architecture give student life an impressive setting. We boast a packed agenda of ambitious events; the region’s largest open-air music festival, Highest Point, is held in the shadow of the beautiful Ashton Memorial. Our eclectic collection of venues and spaces mean there is always something happening.
