Northwest A&F University (NWAFU) is located in Yangling, birthplace of Chinese Agricultural civilization and the only state-level Agricultural High-tech Industries Demonstration Zone in China. It is about 80 km west of Xi’an, China’s ancient capital. NWAFU roots back to 1934 when the institution was founded as National Northwest College of Agriculture and Forestry, with over 80 years of history. Approved by the State Council on September 11th 1999, NWAFU was re-organized by merging seven educational and research institutions located in Yangling. The niversity is an agriculture-oriented higher institution with the most complete disciplines in agriculture, forestry, and water science in China. Currently, there are 26 colleges (departments, institutes) and a Graduate School. It has 65 undergraduate programs, 112 master programs and 71 doctoral programs. The University’s research strengths are animal and plant genetic breeding, crop diseases and insect prevention and control, soil and water conservation and ecological restoration, dry-land farming and water saving irrigation, animal and plant biotechnology, grapes and wine, agricultural history and culture.The university attaches great importance to the international cooperation and exchange, and has established collaborative relations with 154 internationally-recognized universities and research institutes. The international students come from 44 countries. There are 10 research platforms collaborating respectively with the USA, Britain, and Canada, etc. The University initiated and established the Silkroad Agricultural Education and Research Innovation Alliance serving as an important cooperation platform in research and education along the Silkroad Economic Belt. The university campus covers an area of 377 ha with total floor space of 1,280,000 m2. It is known as Eco-Garden University for its harmony layout between nature and culture.
