Located in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos (UAEM) was founded in 1953. It’s the largest institution of higher education in Morelos, with facilities in 17 municipalities statewide.
In 1967, the university gained autonomy and changed its name to the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos.
In 1985, the Eastern Regional Professional Institute (IPRO) opened, offering agricultural programs in engineering for farm implements and vegetable production, and also soon offered social sciences and business degrees in areas such as sociology, economics and accounting. The Southern Regional Professional Institute (IPRES) was founded in Jojutla, offering law, administration and accounting degrees.
Radio UAEM was established in 2000 with transmitters in Cuernavaca, Cuautla and Jojutla, as well as into regional campuses.
Currently with 34,000, the university offers undergraduate and postgraduate study – totalling 65 programs in the sciences, humanities, and the arts. Students can study: agricultural sciences; natural sciences; exact sciences and engineering; social and administrative sciences; health sciences and behaviour; education and humanities.
UAEM offers sport free of charge for students and staff, including: archery; judo; gymnastics; athletics; crossfit; chess; tennis; aerial dance; Zumba, and more.
