VILNIUS GEDIMINAS TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY (VGTU) is a public higher education institution located in Vilnius the capital of Lithuania. Established in 1956 VGTU is one of the biggest research universities in Lithuania with a focus on technologies and engineering and strong emphasis on university-business cooperation.
University is comprised of 10 faculties: Antanas Gustaitis’ Aviation Institute, Architecture, Business Management, Civil Engineering, Creative Industries, Electronics, Environmental Engineering, Fundamental Sciences (ICT & Computer Sciences), Mechanics, Transport Engineering and offers study programme on all 3 levels: undergraduate (BSc), graduate (MSc), PhD in 11 fields of science. Study programmes in the fields of Engineering, Information and Technological Sciences make 70% of all VGTU study programmes. More than a half of all study programmes are interdisciplinary. 30% of all study programmes are taught in English (the overall number of available study modules in English is over 500) that provides the solid platform for international academic exchange activities.
13,5% of all students are international – degree seeking or exchange - from over 80 countries around the globe. The student/academic staff ratio is 10:1 and 67% of all academic staff hold PhD degree.
Over 450 VGTU partner higher education and research institutions in almost 70 countries span the globe – Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa and Australia. The partnership is based on academic mobility of staff and students, joint research and project activities, sharing the EU values, good practices and expertise.
VGTU research activities are implemented at 3 open access research centres, 13 research institutes and 22 research laboratories. VGTU publishes 15 research journals (10 of which are listed in Clarivate Analytics Web of Science).
VGTU actively cooperates with over 500 business partners in Lithuania and abroad. Business representatives contribute to the enhancement of the quality of study programmes through participation in renewal of study programmes, offering traineeship places, providing scholarships for students, lectures and topics for students graduate thesis. Customised research and services for businesses comprises over 40% of the total VGTU R&D budget.
