Vitebsk State Medical University

Vitebsk State Medical University (VSMU) has postgraduate programmes of doctoral programmes in 21 specialties and clinical residency in 63 specialties. Education of scientific research officers of top-qualification is carried out in 40 specialties of postgraduate studentship and in 19 specialties of doctoral program. 

VSMU has 2 postgraduate faculties: Faculty of Advanced Training and Personnel Development and Faculty of Advanced Training in Pedagogics and Psychology. 

The main purpose of Faculty of Advanced Training and Personnel Development (FAT and PD) VSMU is the study of the latest scientific achievements and the best practices in the field of medicine and pharmacy. The main attention is drawn to the deepening and consolidation of theoretical knowledge, acquiring of new one and improvement of existing skills, familiarizing with new equipment and devices, development of advanced forms, methods and techniques of work.

Since 1997 more than 38 500 doctors and pharmacists from the Republic of Belarus and the CIS have been trained at the Faculty.

The Faculty has  five independent chairs and 18 Courses of Advanced Training and Retraining affiliated to university chairs. These independent chairs are:

• Obstetrics and Gynecology;

• Therapy №2;
• Surgery.

Promptly responding to the needs of practical medicine and pharmacy, lecturers of the Faculty are constantly processing curricula, updating course contents, improving the forms and types of professional development of specialists.

The staff of the Faculty are actively engaged in scientific work and conducts advisory and therapeutic work in the clinic of VSMU and health care organizations.

Faculty of Pedagogics and Psychology of VSMU 's main objective is advanced training and retraining of teaching personnel of the educational establishments of medical specialization in speciality "Vocational training" awarding the qualification "Teacher". 

The training is practically-oriented, trainees become acquainted with Pedagogical Oratory, Developmental Psychology, Bases of Pedagogical Ethics, Pedagogical Diagnostics, Management Organization in the system of higher education, Methodology of Pedagogical Research.

The Faculty is ready to admit teachers of high schools and special educational institutions who lack pedagogical education for retraining in speciality "Vocational training", graduates are awarded the qualification "Teacher according to ability in the main education."
