Next week QS will launch the pilot edition of a new ranking of universities in Emerging Europe and Central Asia, with the first set of results to be presented at a conference in Budapest on 17-18 December.
The project was initiated with the aim of celebrating and comparing fast-developing higher education systems in Eastern European and Central Asian nations. While the countries considered are diverse, they have also been recognized by the World Bank as sharing comparable contexts, challenges and opportunities – including a shared focus on investment in higher education as a key driver of economic and social progress.
The latest edition of the QS World University Rankings® features 55 Eastern European universities and 12 in Central Asia; the new QS University Rankings: Emerging Europe and Central Asia will make it possible for a greater number of the regions’ institutions to gain international recognition, while also serving as a basis for comparison and benchmarking.
First edition to highlight region's top 100 universities
More than 350 universities in 30 countries across Emerging Europe and Central Asia have been evaluated, with the region’s top 100 to be published in this first edition of the QS University Rankings: Emerging Europe and Central Asia. The inaugural results will be presented next week in Budapest, at a conference which will also provide opportunities to share ideas and best practices, and discuss some of the key issues of significance for universities across the region.
Speakers, including university leaders, directors of governmental agencies and student representatives, will debate topics including institutional development, internationalization, research collaboration, and student and academic mobility. Special workshops will also give attendees insights into the emerging potential of universities in the region, as well as a master class on international rankings of universities, for institutions featured in an international ranking for the first time.
