Middle East Technical University (METU), founded in 1956, is an international research university which seeks excellence in serving the country, region and the world. METU has 40 undergraduate programs within 5 faculties. Moreover, there are 5 Graduate Schools with 97 masters and 62 doctorate programs and a "School of Foreign Languages". METU accepts students only from top 1.5 % of approximately 1.8 million applicants taking the National University Entrance Examination, each year. METU, currently has about 23,000 students of which 4,500 are in masters and 2,700 are in doctorate programs. METU strives to maintain a high standard of education by international standards. Thus, the medium of instruction at METU is English at both undergraduate and graduate levels. METU has always sought external assessment, accreditation and certification by international organizations, and been committed to a "quality culture".
