Tallinn University (TU) is the largest university of humanities and social sciences in Tallinn and the third biggest public university in Estonia. At TU, longest traditions of teacher training in Estonia and the most modern film and media school in the Baltic countries exist side by side.


Research in Tallinn University is conducted in five focus fields, six institutes and two regional colleges. Our five interdisciplinary focus fields are educational innovation, digital and media culture, cultural competences, healthy and sustainable lifestyle and society and open governance.

What makes Tallinn University unique?

  •  We combine social sciences and humanities with technology and innovation and offer unique English-based degree programmes in Europe, such as Digital Learning Games, Crossmedia in Film and Television, Estonian Studies, and Social Entrepreneurship among others.
  • Baltic Film, Media, Arts and Communication School (BFM) at Tallinn University is the only higher-educational institution in Northern Europe teaching film, television and media studies in English and the most contemporary film school in the region.
  • The only institution in Estonia that focuses on ‘soft’ information and communication technologies including social media applications, digital learning ecosystems, interaction design, workplace learning and other related fields.
  • Tallinn University, with 100 years of experience in teacher training, is the central institution for teacher-education in Estonia.
