The Universidad de Santiago de Chile is one of the nation's largest state universities. Combining a view to the future with a rich heritage of 150 years of educational service, the university's highly trained staffs prepares undergraduate and graduate professionals. Created 153 years ago as the Arts and Trade School, it was later united with other educational institutions and diverse provincial branches to form the State Technical University in 1947, becoming the present-day University. It continued as a scientific and technological University, taking on the challenge of providing professional instruction for the nation's industrialization.
