The Universidad de Santiago de Chile is one of the nation's largest state universities. Throughout its History an ongoing process of change and transformation to the original technical school has represented it. It continued as a scientific and technological University, taking on the challenge of providing professional instruction for the nation's industrialization. It is a University with diverse undergraduate and graduate programs, additional educational offerings, with an emphasis on academic excellence and humanistic values. The University's is dedicated to a concern for the creation, preservation, development, and sharing of knowledge through up-to-date research, teaching and extension in sciences, arts, humanities and technological fields. The University also stresses a deep concern with the society and the nation's future, considering the development of critical thinking in its academics and students of critical importance in a pluralistic environment where expressing freedom and tolerance are central.
