Narxoz University was founded in 1963 in an era of grandiose plans, large-scale reforms and great achievements. Following the spirit of the times, the progress of the University was rapid — only a few years passed from the Foundation to the all-Union recognition.

Recognition

The history of the formation of Narxoz traces the entire process of the origin and development of the system of higher economic education in Kazakhstan. The university became the Alma-Mater for several generations of successful economists, financiers, managers, and businessmen. Having won respect and recognition at the earliest stage of its existence, after half a century, the University adheres to high standards of work and strives for new outstanding achievements.

Development

In the new Millenium Narxoz began a new life. In 2002 our University went through the process of corporatization and was one of the first Kazakhstani universities to adopt a strategic planning tool. The new approach to management is driven by the need for rapid and flexible adaptation to constantly changing market demands and rapid response to environmental challenges.

Today, Narxoz is a regional leader in Economics, Business Education, Social Sciences, Big Data and Law. Our cooperation numbers over 70 partners around the world, including the TOP universities in the USA, Europe and Asia, whereby Narxoz successfully implements double degree and exchange programs, as well as international projects. Narxoz is one of the first universities in the country who set targets for sustainable development in accordance with the UN SDGs, and also conducts continuous research in this field.

Narxoz is currently engaged in an ambitious transformation to become a largely English-medium institution with an inward orientation toward positive social transformation while serving as a cultural, educational and intellectual bridge to the outside world.

University has entered the TOP 250 Emerging University in Europe and Central Asia in 2019 and the TOP 400 Most Impactful University on the UN Sustainable Development Goals by THE Impact ranking in 2020. Additionally, Narxoz is member of numerous international associations as AACSB, EFMD, AmCham, British Chamber of commerce in Kazakhstan etc.

For more than 50 years, Narxoz has been an alma mater for many successful people in Kazakhstan and far beyond its borders. As a leader in higher education in Central Asia, Narxoz has graduated more than 140,000 talented specialists and many of them have made and continue to contribute to the development of Kazakhstan and beyond through leading positions in international companies, entrepreneurial ventures, non-governmental and civil society organizations, as well as government.

The University consistently demonstrates the quality of educational programs offered to students. One of the tools for external independent evaluation is participation in ratings – EECA QS, TimesHigherEducation, rating of NCE "Atameken" and others. In addition, the University's work is based on the priority directions of the country's development, noted in the "strategy Kazakhstan-2050".

Nowadays, Narxoz has 3 schools, which offer 33 BA, 21 MA and 7 PhD educational programs in economics, management, marketing, finance, audit, tourism, engineering, social sciences, law and medical sciences. Also 2 Educational programs in MBA are available.

Gender Economics Research Center

GERC at Narxoz University was opened in spring 2018 with the financial and expert support of the Soros Foundation-Kazakhstan. We are the first and only center for research in gender economics in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Our mission and vision are the promotion of economic well-being and equality for everyone. Our research fellows conduct research, publish articles, promote academic disciplines on gender economics in educational institutions of Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

Silk Road Case Center

Teaching with case method has become the de-facto pedagogy in Management Education. Through cases, students not only get introduced to the concepts, frameworks and theories but also get exposure to the managerial challenges and in the process, they learn the approaches to understand, analyze and resolve managerial issues. However, as managerial issues are situated not only in the organizational contexts but in broader socio-economic-political-cultural contexts – 'standard cases' don't always work to give students the required exposure. Hence, as the complexity in the business environment increases in a connected global economy, the need for cases offering exposure to varied contexts is ever increasing.

SUSTAINABLE KAZAKHSTAN RESEARCH INSTITUTE (SKRI)

Kazakhstan was one of the 193 countries from around the world that adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. These goals are an unprecedented commitment by world leaders from around the globe to put sustainability as the overarching theme for human development encompassing the triple bottom line: society, environment and the economy. The new agenda is people-centered, universal, transformative and integrated. It calls for action by all countries for all people until 2030 in five areas of critical importance: people, planet, prosperity, peace and partnership.

Eurasian Center For Economic and Legal Research

The Center has been established in response to the need to enhance international relations of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of science, economics and law; to build the academic capacity of the faculty of the School of Law and Public Policy; to develop solutions of diverse economic and legal problems within interstate associations, in which the Republic of Kazakhstan is an active participant; and to conduct joint academic and economic projects with academics and research entities on the international level.

ADRENALINE

Adrenalineis an amateur sports club that covers several sports areas. And consists of thefollowing teams: Mountain kings, Runway kings, ice skating kings. Also, theclub organizes meetings and trainings with mountain climbers, owners of sports achievements.

Reading club "Do ityourself"

Literary club, uniting lovers of reading or writing. The goal of the clubis to enable club members to read more literature and discuss the content todeliver competent speech and instill public speaking skills.

Development of Student Council

Thegoal of the Student Senate of Narxoz University is to represent the interestsand protect the rights of students. The Dean's Office for Student Affairscoordinates the election process and provides organizational assistance to the Senateafter its formation. TheStudent Senate formation process include several stages, as we have threedifferent Schools, as School of Law and public policy, School of economics andmanagement and School of society, technology and ecology, which provide intheir Schools election process of the chairman of the Student council. TheStudent senate include three chairmen, whose represents their School and 13members of the senate.

InNarxoz University we provide PsychologicalService for students. The main goal of the Psychological Service is moraland mental support of students and the development of their competencies forthe formation of the resistant to any conditions and free, open personalities,which is enshrined in the mission of the University. The opportunity to receivefree psychological support and the creation of conditions for the developmentof all-round skills and abilities necessary for life are a noticeable advantageof the University.
