National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal www.nitk.ac.in is one of India's leading research and teaching institution. Established in 1960 as Karnataka Regional Engineering College, Surathkal, the Institute was declared as a Deemed to be University on June 26, 2002, an Institute of National Importance on August 15, 2007 and is currently governed by National Institutes of Technology Act, 2007 and rules laid down by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The Institute is dedicated to imparting quality and competency-based education and preparing students for leadership roles in industry and academic in India and abroad. The Institute has 13 Academic Departments, 1 School, 15 supporting centres, 300+ dedicated faculty members (91% PhD holders), 400+ committed supporting staff, and 5500+ talented students. We are academically autonomous and do not have any constituent,affiliated or off site campuses.
The Institute is located at Surathkal, 22 km north of Mangalore in Karnataka and is well connected by road, rail, air and sea. The campus is located on the Arabian Sea coast and is blessed with a clean environment and healthy climate throughout the year. The state of the art infrastructure, laboratories enabled with cutting-edge-technology and modern campus facilities provides an ambiance that encourages innovation, team spirit and leadership. Initiatives like Credit transfer, Summer Internship, Active collaboration with industry and partner universities across the world, travel grants for internship and for attending conferences, peer mentoring, opportunity and support for co-curricular and extra-curricular activities offers a holistic environment with motivation for learning and professional growth. Our Alumni complement the Institutional efforts in global networking and student mentoring.
