About
The university has 68 departments organised into 8 faculties. These faculties cater the academic needs of students from across the world. Besides these faculties 24 centres have been set up which operate academic and research oriented courses for the students’ community of global and national level.
1. Faculty of Agriculture
Under this faculty one institute is there viz. the Institute of Agricultural Science and it offers PG Courses in Agro-technology, Agro-ecology, Agronomy, Agriculture Chemistry and Soil Science, Agriculture and Rural Development, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Science, Bacteriology, Crop Science, Dairy & Fisheries Science, Food Technology, Horticulture, Soil and Water Science, Seed Science among others.
2. Faculty of Arts
This faculty consists the departments of Ancient Indian History and Culture, Archaeology, Arabic-Persian, Urdu, Bengali, Language and Literature, Comparative Indian Literature, Economics, Ethnic Studies, English Language and Literature, Hindi, History, Linguistics, Museology, Pali, Buddhist Studies, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology, Sanskrit, South and South-East Asian Studies, Gender and women's studies etc.
3. Faculty of Commerce, Social Welfare & Business Management
This faculty consists of the departments of business management and commerce and they offer M Com, MBA, MBA(FM), MBA (HRD), M Phil, Ph D, PGDPMS programs.
4. Faculty of Education, Journalism and Library Science
This faculty consists of three departments that offer courses on Education, Journalism and Mass Communication, and Library & Information Science.
5. Faculty of Engineering & Technology
This faculty consists of the departments of Applied Optics and Photonics, Instrumentation Engineering, Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology, Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, Polymer Science and Technology, Petroleum Engineering, Radio Physics and Electronics, and Jute and Fibre Technology.
6. Faculty of Fine Arts, Music and Home Science
This faculty consists of the Department of Home Science, which offers courses on subjects such as food and nutrition, human development, and home science.
7. Faculty of Law
This faculty comprises only the department of law. Established in January 1909 as the University College of Law. The faculty has many luminaries associated with it, including Rajendra Prasad, Rashbehari Ghose, and Chhitaranjan Das.
8. Faculty of Science
This faculty has 23 departments which include Anthropology, Psychology, Applied Mathematics, Applied Psychology, Atmospheric Science, Bio-chemistry, Bio-physics, Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Botany, Chemistry, Electronic Science, Environmental Science, Genetics, Geology, Geography, Marine Science, Microbiology, Physics, Physiology, Pure Mathematics, Statistics, Zoology, and Neurosciences.
