Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo (ESPOCH) is an institution of Higher Education, with legal status of public law, autonomous, non-profit, created by Constitutive Law No. 6909, published in the Official Gazette No.173 of May 7, 1969 and Decree No.1223, published in the Official Register No. 425 of November 6, 1973, through which it obtained the current name; domiciled in the city of Riobamba, Province of Chimborazo, it is governed by the Constitution of the Republic of Ecuador, the Organic Law of Higher Education, its General Regulations, other related laws, this Polytechnic Statute and its internal regulations.
ESPOCH symbols are the flag, made up of three equal horizontal stripes with the colors red, white and green; the shield, surrounded by two circles whose borders are red and green; and, the anthem. Its representative mascot is the figure of a llama (Lamaglama), a South American camelid. The university motto is: "TO KNOW FOR BEING".
The institutional Vision is to be a leading, pertinent, and excellent institution of higher education in academia, in research and vinculation that promotes the enrichment of culture through the national and international transfer of sageness and knowledge for the construction of solutions that contribute to the development of society in harmony with the rights of nature.
