Postgraduate programs at PUCRS have over 40-years history, in a successful example of excellence and tradition in Brazilian higher education. At PUCRS, research and postgraduate programs are conducted in collaboration with the most important national and international universities and centers. PUCRS offers double degree programmes in partnership with universities from several countries, such as France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Canada and the Netherlands.
All postgraduate programs are approved and regulated by the Brazilian Ministry of Education–MEC, which authorizes PUCRS to award master’s and doctoral degrees.
Concerning the Stricto Sensu postgraduate program, the external evaluation is carried out by the Coordination for Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), an official Ministry of Education (MEC) Agency. CAPES evaluation process takes place every four years and covers the performance of each graduation program. PUCRS results on the last CAPES evaluation (2013) ranks the University in the 4th national position among all Brazilian Universities with 10 or more doctoral programs. According to the Agency, eleven of the PUCRS postgraduate programs have reached international excellence and six of them reached national excellence.
PUCRS offers Stricto Sensu postgraduate programs in all major areas of knowledge, providing students with experience in research projects.
