The Federal University of São João del-Rei (UFSJ), based in São João del-Rei, near the capital Belo Horizonte, is ranked among the best institutions of higher education in the country. The UFSJ offers a wide selection of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in areas such as Health Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Music, Social Sciences, Engineering and Basic Sciences and Advanced Technologies. There are 42 undergraduate courses (with 57 choices of entry, by shift or term), thirteen postgraduate courses, stricto senso and more than 100 research groups and extension. According to a recent evaluation of the Ministry of Education, UFSJ ranks eighth among the 1,500 institutions of higher education in Brazil. The courses are spread across six different campi, three campi located in Sao Joao del-Rei and the other three located in different cities: Divinópolis, Ouro Branco and Sete Lagoas. The courses offered at the headquarters are mostly administered in the evening, allowing students to carry out work activities combined with studies activities.
