Established in the year 1968,the University of Calicut is the largest institution of higher learning inKerala in terms of jurisdiction and student intake. There are currently 35teaching departments, 426 affiliated colleges, 11 chairs and 41 self-financingcentres under the varsity. The University has re-accredited with 'A' Grade by NAAC. The University caters to the educationalrequirements of the Malabar region, consisting of the most backward districtsof the state. The courses offered by the University are specially designed tosuit the ethos and requirements of the region. In order to keep the syllabi upto date and address the needs of the rapidly changing job scenario theUniversity periodically reviews the structure and content of the courses. Thisis taken care of by 126 Boards of Studies functioning under 14 Faculties. Inorder to systematize the learning and evaluation process the Universityintroduced Choice Based Credit Semester System (CCSS) in the year 2008. The University has state of theart buildings and other infrastructural facilities. In the past few years aheavy investment was made in these areas to improve the facilities available tothe students. The examination system has been streamlined and a fool-proofmechanism is now in place for the efficient conduct of the exams and promptspublication of results. The introduction of online verification system hasfacilitated rapid verification of marks and certificates, benefitting a largenumber of graduates and employers. The University has won the E-GovernanceAward for the successful implementation of ICT in administration, finance,examination, research etc. The newly introduced feedbacksystem provides students with a forum to voice their complaints and suggestionsabout various courses. Similarly, promotion of web-based learning affords themgreater flexibility of timing and mobility.
