Zhetysu State University named after I.Zhansugurov as the largest educational and scientific center of Almaty region is a multidisciplinary institution of higher education providing three level training of specialists. Zhetysu State University named after I. Zhansugurov was founded as Taldykorgan Pedagogical Institute in 1972. In 1977 it was named after a famous Kazakh poet Ilyas Zhansugurov.
There are 7 faculties including Pedagogy and Psychology Faculty, Technical Faculty, Faculty of Law and Economics, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of natural science, Faculty of physical education and arts and Distance learning faculty, 26 departments, 10 research centers and labs, 1 startup academy in the university. About 5000 undergraduates and over 500 postgraduates study here. The university has 323 faculty members, including 19 doctors of science, 124 candidates of science and 19 PhDs.
Today there are 69 educational programs including 63 accredited (40 out of 42 bachelor degree programs, 21 master degree programs, 2 out of 6 PhD programs).
The University is ranked 8th among multidisciplinary universities in the national university ranking by Independent Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (IQAA) in 2019.
